Children’s Care for Brains, Bodies and Behaviour
If you’re worried that your baby never settles or your child is struggling with learning or behaviour, you’re not alone. Many parents are told “they’ll grow out of it,” yet their gut says something isn’t right.
How We Assess Your Child
Children are not just “small adults,” so their assessment needs to be different. Dr Michael Hooker observes how your child moves, balances and performs age-appropriate skills, and gently checks primitive reflexes. Applied Kinesiology manual muscle testing is used as a window into how your child’s nervous system is functioning. When a muscle “switches off” under light pressure, it can indicate stress in the brainstem, spine, cranial system, gut or emotions, guiding where care is focused.
Issues We Commonly Support
- Unsettled Babies, Colic, Reflux and Projectile Vomiting: Children experiencing colic, reflux or projectile vomiting can receive focused care to ease discomfort and support normal development.
- Babies Who Don’t Settle or Have Trouble Feeding: Gentle techniques help babies who struggle to settle or feed properly, addressing underlying nervous system or digestive issues.
- Toddlers With Clumsiness or Delayed Milestones: Assessment and care support toddlers who appear clumsy or are behind in developmental milestones.
- School-Age Kids With Focus or ADHD-Type Behaviours: Children struggling to sit still, read, or labelled with ADHD-type behaviours benefit from nervous-system-focused interventions.
- Children With Sensory Sensitivities or Frequent Tantrums: Care addresses children who react strongly to sounds, touch, change, or have frequent emotional outbursts.
We use gentle cranial, spinal, visceral and nervous-system focused care with light, specific contacts to ease tension.

Helping Brains Integrate Reflexes, Gut and Emotions
Our Retained Neonatal Reflexes approach, developed from Applied Kinesiology, tests whether primitive reflexes in the brainstem have settled as they should. By helping these reflexes integrate and addressing emotional stress, gut health, biochemistry, posture and movement, many children find it easier to focus, sit still and learn. Recommendations may include gentle structural care, simple diet changes, supplements or stress-easing strategies.
